Despite waking up to a disappointed girl who would rather go to school than have a day off, we had one of those days where the pieces all fit.
A morning hike on our mountain with the scent of chaparral, a cooling breeze off the Pacific, blinding sun alternating with redwood shaded groves, and a girl who was game to try anything - a rock climb with her English daddy, scrambling up a slippery leaf and needle-covered slope, running pell-mell down the trail. No photos captured the morning hike, one among many, but the senses remember.
And then a sunset visit to the beach. You would think from the photos that it was idyllic but the wind was goosebump-inducing, the water chilling and the air brisk. English hubby and I decided it would be a five minute dash down to the water to dip our toes and then back to the warmth of the car but Sweetpea had different ideas. She ran the length of the beach and seemed not to notice the chill so we ignored it as long as we could too.
Although there will in all probability be warm days ahead, it felt like we said good-bye to summer.

That's my beautiful, adventurous niece! Lovely pics.
ReplyDeleteExcellent way to wear off cake!
ReplyDeleteI love the photos. My daughter is much braver about cold water too--she doens't care, she just loves water. I am the wimp shivering with the tip of my toe dipping in.
ReplyDeleteCake? with all that running and hiking, you should have had a second piece! plus it takes lots of calories to keep warm.
